You guide a blocky character forward across a never-ending strip of busy highways, train lines, and rivers, hopping one square at a time. There is no finish line — your score is simply how far you get before something flattens, drowns, or snatches you, and the instant restart makes it a classic "one more go" game.

The world splits into three kinds of terrain. Roads are packed with cars and trucks you have to read and slip between, so you often hop sideways and wait for a gap. Train tracks are the scary ones: a flashing light and a horn warn that a fast train is coming, and one careless hop onto the rails ends the run instantly. Rivers can't be walked across — you cross them by timing hops onto logs and lily pads that drift left and right, and falling in is game over. Linger too long anywhere and an eagle swoops down to carry you off, which stops you from camping in a safe spot.

Between runs you spend the coins you collect, plus the game's free gifts, on a prize machine that unlocks new characters — more than 150 of them. Many change the whole setting, turning the highways into a desert, a swamp, or a neon city, so chasing the next unlock gives the endless format real staying power.

How to play Crossy Road

Press forward to hop ahead one square, and tap left or right to dodge sideways. The goal is pure distance: every hop forward adds to your score, and a run ends the moment you misjudge a car, a train, or the water. Keep a steady rhythm rather than freezing, because standing still for too long is what brings the eagle down.

Controls

Desktop: use the arrow keys or WASD — up hops forward, left and right step sideways to dodge, and down backs up. On touchscreens, tap to hop forward and swipe to move in any direction.
