Subway Surfers

Subway Surfers is the endless runner that made lane-dodging mainstream: you play a graffiti artist being chased by an inspector and his dog after being caught tagging a train yard, sprinting down the tracks while dodging oncoming trains, barriers, and tunnels. It's a three-lane runner at its core, but the constant train traffic coming from both directions is what makes it distinct from other runners in the genre.

The loop is simple to describe and hard to master: swipe (or press arrow keys) to switch lanes, jump onto and over train cars, roll under barriers, and use the hoverboard when you have one to survive a single crash instead of ending the run. Coins scattered along the track let you unlock characters and boards, and power-ups like the jetpack, sneakers, or coin magnet temporarily change how you have to read the track. Score climbs the longer you survive and the more coins you grab along the way.

Mechanically the game leans on lane reading more than raw reflexes. Trains often run in parallel on multiple lanes at once, so the real skill is scanning two or three lanes ahead and deciding your route early rather than reacting at the last second. Jumping onto a train roof is often safer than staying on the ground when a barrier and a train arrive at the same time, and rolling has a brief recovery window where you can't immediately jump again, which catches new players off guard.

A genuinely useful habit is to treat the hoverboard as a save rather than something to activate on cooldown — it absorbs one hit, so it's most valuable right when the track gets chaotic (multiple trains merging, a sudden barrier after a jump) rather than burned early for safety. Coin magnets and score multipliers are worth prioritizing over jetpacks if your goal is a high score rather than just surviving, since they stack value across the whole run instead of one brief window.

Subway Surfers also refreshes its map periodically with different city themes, which changes scenery but keeps the core dodge-and-collect loop identical, so skills you build in one city carry over directly to the next.

How to play Subway Surfers?

Switch lanes with the left and right arrow keys, jump over obstacles and onto train roofs with the up arrow, and slide under barriers with the down arrow. Watch two lanes ahead rather than the obstacle directly in front of you, save power-ups for genuinely dangerous stretches, and prioritize a clear lane over grabbing every coin.

Controls

Desktop: Use the left and right arrow keys to change lanes, Up to jump, and Down to roll.
